系所概況：
本系創設於1927年，至1950年因時局因素中斷，1963年輔大在臺復校成功，本系亦於其時恢復，追溯前後，本系成立已有悠久歷史。
本系於北平時期在史學名家陳援庵、張星烺等先生的倡導之下，以中西交通史與宗教史的研究蜚聲學界；在臺復校後，秉持優良傳統，除兼顧中外歷史，並於西洋歷史特為注重，民國五十六年設立研究所，即以西洋史的研究為主，近年又增加宗教史與中外關係史的研究。
本系有學士班與碩士班，自八十七學年度起，獲准增班，每年招收學士班學生120人，碩士班學生13人，並期於條件成熟時設立博士班。
From its inception in1967,the Graduate Institute of History has specialized in the study of European and American studies. The objective is to train qualified teachers of Western History for the Republic of China. From 1992 on, the Graduate Institute began to cooperate with "The Institutum Historiae Ecclesiae" to study the developmental history of the Catholic Church.
An early goal of the institute was to translate important historical works into Chinese. This would provide more reference works for the Chinese students. To promote research by students, the institute publishes an annual journal containing articles written by students.
